Gon Laserna, founder of Noctis Astro and one of Bolivia’s leading astrophotographers, is a tour guide, filmmaker, and media producer with over 7 years of professional astro experience. His deep passion for the night sky led him to create Noctis Astro, curating unique experiences that combine astro imaging, location scouting, and optimal shooting conditions. With his expertise, you’ll have access to the best locations at the perfect time to capture stunning astrophotography, timelapses, and videos.

Jason Rice is an astrophotographer based in Birmingham, AL. He has long marveled at the universe through his interest in astronomy, ignited through attending the famous Space Camp in Huntsville as a teen. As an accomplished musician, Jason has always had an appreciation for the arts. However, he recently discovered photography, specifically astrophotography, as a passion in early 2023. This passion has already taken him to unique places across the globe. Through wide-field astrophotography, Jason is driven to explore the beauty of the universe, with Milky Way nightscapes as his central focus.

Together, they create the perfect balance of technical expertise, local knowledge, and logistical precision, allowing you to focus on capturing the cosmos in the best possible conditions.

What will I achieve during the workshop & tour?

During the workshop, you will expand your astrophotography skills, exchange ideas with like-minded enthusiasts, and gain valuable insights into advanced techniques for capturing the night sky. You’ll have access to world-class astro photography locations with pristine Bortle Class 1 skies and the best seasonal weather conditions, allowing you to capture high-level images, stunning timelapses, and cinematic videos.

The tour starts and ends in La Paz, Bolivia.

Do I need a visa for Bolivia?

Most countries don’t need a visa to enter Bolivia for tourism, make sure you come from a country that is cleared. To enter Bolivia, the following documents must be presented:
-A passport with a minimum validity of 6 months
-A yellow fever vaccination certificate if visiting high-risk endemic areas
-A recent photograph
-Proof of accommodation reservation
-Entry and exit ticket

How physically prepared or fit should I be for the tour?

The Altiplano Astro Route takes place at high altitudes, ranging from 4,000 to 4,300 meters above sea level, where oxygen levels are lower, and temperatures can drop significantly at night. To fully enjoy the experience, we highly recommend acclimatizing in La Paz for at least 1-2 days before the tour to adjust to the altitude. While no extreme physical effort is required, being comfortable with cold conditions and high-altitude environments is essential for a smooth and enjoyable journey.

How is the weather during the tour?

The Altiplano Astro Route is carefully scheduled during the best time of the year for astrophotography, between April and August, when the skies are at their clearest and conditions are ideal. This period, known as the Milky Way season or astro season, offers minimal cloud cover, dry weather, and excellent visibility. While temperatures can drop at night, especially at high altitudes, these months provide the most stable and reliable conditions for capturing stunning night sky images.
